Leaving Munich

Do I have to 'de-register'?

Unless you are moving away from Munich but within Germany, you must also deregister upon your departure. This may sound superfluous, but one fellow had conducted research in Germany years before beginning his fellowship at gd:c. Upon returning for his fellowship, the authorities presented him with a list of complications, including back taxes, that had accrued in the interim. Because he never officially ‘de-registered’, the German authorities were reluctant to recognise his period of absence and withdraw their demands.

To deregister, please fill in this form and submit it to the local Bürgerbüro or submit this form online.
