Crises, wars and social inequality shape our present. Images of people fleeing their homes reach us every day, but they rarely hold our attention for long. The German title “(Weg)Sehen” plays on the difference between wegsehen (looking away) and sehen (seeing). By crossing out the “away”, the exhibition asks visitors to look more closely.
Thirteen artists with and without experiences of flight or migration show works that offer different perspectives on social realities. The exhibition aims to encourage reflection, foster empathy and strengthen dialogue about responsibility and living together. It is also a place where visitors and artists meet, and the exchange between the artists is meant to continue beyond the exhibition.
The exhibition touches on questions at the heart of our research at global dis:connect: What do flight and migration mean as moments of connection and disconnection? How do they change the way we perceive a globalised world?
